Inaccurate Holding Tank Level Readings?
(This is a general guide, depending on your RV. Plumbing systems vary)
The accuracy of the wire holding tank monitoring system can be adversely affected by dirty tanks, unusual mineral content in the water and/or improper holding thank probe location. These conditions can cause the monitoring system to have sensitive (readings higher than tank actual level) or under sensitive (readings lower than tank actual level).
Oversensitive Readings:
Oversensitive reading can occur as a result of scum buildup on the tank walls, abnormally high mineral content in water, or incorrectly located tank probes. In these situations the monitoring system indicated higher levels than the actually present in the holding tank. Certain cleaning products and food by-products can build up on the inside walls of the holding tanks production a layer of scum that can cause the monitoring system to read higher than the actual level.
Under Sensitive Readings:
Under Sensitive readings can occur if the mineral content of the water is abnormally low of if the holding tank probes are located incorrectly.
Correction:
1. Clean tanks periodically.
2. Use digesting chemical. Many times the generic brands bought at local retail stores are not strong enough. Check with an RV dealer for the proper chemical.
3. Use only single ply tissue and if possible RV tissue. These types of tissues are mad to break down quicker and not cause clogs or blockage
4. Flush tank with high pressure water. Attachments are available that connect to a garden hose and can be inserted into holding tank through the stool. These help in removing any build up that may not release with regular dumping.
